 Goldschmidt Vineyard 2004 Single
Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Game Ranch, Oakville, Napa
Valley
The 3 acre, Game Ranch Vineyard is situated in the famed Oakville
appellation in the heart of the Napa Valley. Located on an old river
bottom on the eastern bench of the Silverado Trail, the vineyard is made
up of very rocky, well draining soils. In this stressful, low moisture
environment, the vines struggle to put everything they can into the
development of the fruit. With perfect control over the watering of this
vineyard site we are able to coax the vines to produce grapes of great
concentration and exceptional quality.
Our goal is to highlight the characters of this noble varietal while
showcasing the distinct benefits and attributes associated with the
vineyard site. The Goldschmidt Vineyard Oakville Cabernet is a full
bodied wine with supple tannins that are balanced with power and weight.
Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is hand crafted, utilizing the
best possible resources available. The wine is exceptional; with the
richness and balance that are the hallmarks of world class wines.
"We
had a tough decision to make with the 2003 vintage of Cabernet that
we harvest from our vineyard sites in the Alexander Valley and in
Napa. While still great, we felt that due to the erratic growing
season, the balance of the fruit was not up to the high standards
that we set for ourselves when we launched the Goldschmidt Vineyard
Cabernet label back in 1999. So, for that reason we decided not to
produce the Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernets in the 2003 vintage. The
2004 vintage was especially good to us and we felt that the balance
and structure of the fruit was again worthy of the Goldschmidt
Vineyard label. The vintage was marked with early fruit set; perfect
ripening conditions and an unusually early harvest."
