 Goldschmidt Vineyard 2002 Single
Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Vyborny Vineyard, Alexander
Valley
Goldschmidt Vyborny Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a
remarkable 5 acre site that is on a Northeastern slope in the southern
region of the renowned Alexander Valley. The vineyard is situated on a
terraced knoll, just east of the town of Geyserville and is comprised
primarily of a gravelly loam soil. The slope direction provides
excellent exposure of the grape clusters and allows for long “hang
time”. This provides us with perfectly formed bunches of grapes that
possess optimal ripeness and fully developed varietal character. The
unique combination of exposure, soil conditions, drainage, and mature
vines, produces wines of rich, concentrated flavors that showcase the
true character of the region, the vineyard and the varietal.
Our goal is to highlight the special characters of this noble
varietal while showcasing the distinct benefits and attributes
associated with this magnificent vineyard site. The Goldschmidt Vineyard
Vyborny Cabernet is a full bodied wine with supple tannins that are
balanced with power and weight. Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
is hand crafted, utilizing the best possible resources available. The
wine is exceptional; with the richness and balance that are the
hallmarks of world class wines.
"Great
vineyards are naturally balanced, produce smaller than average size
berries and produce vines that expose the cluster to the sun uniformly
in each vintage. Our site is unique in that it allows for a very long
hang time between flowering and harvest. This allows the vine to maximize
flavor and tannin development leading to a very rich, and yet supple,
wine. The 2002 vintage was very unique in that we had a lower than
average crop, so the tannins ripened early. This led us to produce wines
of more elegance than we normally would, with soft, sweet tannins and
ripe round fruit more in the red cherry spectrum."
