 Goldschmidt Vineyard 2005 Single
Vineyard Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Vyborny Vineyard, Alexander
Valley
Goldschmidt Vyborny Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a
remarkable 5 acre site that is on a Northeastern slope in the southern
region of the renowned Alexander Valley. The vineyard is situated on a
terraced knoll, just east of the town of Geyserville and is comprised
primarily of a gravelly loam soil. The slope direction provides
excellent exposure of the grape clusters and allows for long "hang
time". This provides us with perfectly formed bunches of grapes that
possess optimal ripeness and fully developed varietal character. The
unique combination of exposure, soil conditions, drainage, and mature
vines, produces wines of rich, concentrated flavors that showcase the
true character of the region, the vineyard and the varietal.
Our goal is to highlight the special characters of this noble
varietal while showcasing the distinct benefits and attributes
associated with this magnificent vineyard site. The Goldschmidt Vineyard
Vyborny Cabernet is a full bodied wine with supple tannins, luxurious
texture, and a lengthy finish. Goldschmidt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
is hand crafted, utilizing the best possible resources available. The
wine is exceptional; with the richness and balance that are the
hallmarks of world class wines.
"After
23 years of vintages these wines are the most important wines that I
make. As you know I make many millions of cases of wine but these
two wines, Goldschmidt and Forefathers, are wines that I help pick,
pump over, shovel out, barrel fill, barrel rack and bottle. I am
hands on all the way. I leave no stone unturned in the execution of
these wines. I don't get to truly do that anywhere but here. These
vineyards I work with are really special as well. You have to see
them to believe them. I have made wines from these two vineyards now
for 15 years and know them well. The 2005 is quite different to the
2004 vintage; the 2005 to me is more about the "hands off" or a
concept that I use "nature's helper". The wine shows true unfined
and unfiltered characters, more so than I have seen in the past. A
real wine of the place."
