Forefathers was the first brand that was released by Goldschmidt Vineyards.
It uses a funnel vision approach to site specific non-geographical winemaking.
The concept is to start with New World wines, the ask which are the classic
varieties, which country are they best represented by, which appellation
within that country best showcases the classic characters of that wine,
where is a vineyard within that appellation that will provide wines true
to the character?
New World Wines
With this philosophy in mind the Forefathers wines were created. The
varietals of Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon were selected.
The appellation of source was condensed to Marlborough in New Zealand for
the Sauvignon Blanc, McLaren Vale in South Australia for the Shiraz, and
Alexander Valley in California for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
The
Right Regions
for the Right Reasons
However, we have chosen to take our program a unique step further. We
have gone further down the funnel believing that in order to present our
wines as an optimum representative of the varietal all wines under the Forefathers
brand are selected from a single vineyard. This vineyard has been meticulously
selected to present varietal character of maximum complexity without the
need for blending of other vineyard sources or other varietals.
All our wines are made and bottled at the source, both Nick and Yolyn
have an integral involvement in all areas of the winemaking, traveling to
make all pivotal decisions in the winemaking and bottling process before
the wines are shipped.
Our program allow consumers to taste classic wines from ultra-premium
appellations from around the world under one label.
